Ben Aitken

Fylde Borough Councillor - Ansdell Ward

Ben is a retired special needs teacher with 34 years unbroken service, much of which was with deprived children. He is married with 3 children and has lived in Ansdell for over 17 years. He is an eco ambassador, member of the Lytham St.Annes Civic Society, regularly attends St.Joseph’s church, enjoys reading, walking, gardening and crown green bowling. He has been a very busy Ansdell Councillor since 2007 and has a full attendance of all Council meetings and events.

Ben has been the Ansdell in Bloom Co-ordinator since 2006, and in that time has endeavoured to improve the Ansdell street scene. Five years ago the Woodlands Road street scene was one of neglect with untidy weed covered brick planters. Improvements he has been very involved with include the strip of land adjacent to Melton Grove and land at the Forest Drive/Blackpool Road junction. With the garden area at Ansdell Institute, Ben has been actively encouraging the Railway Companies to improve the station environment (the gateway to the 2012 Open Golf). He is a local Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator and regularly attends the Police and Community Together meetings. He has also liaised with Lancashire County Council to drastically improve the roads of Ansdell, keep the gullies clean and all street lights working.
